Core Capability · Testing

Dynamic balancing and NDT testing that keeps high-speed rolls alive.

Modern roll service runs fast. Paper machines, plastic film lines, aluminum mills, coating lines — all running at speeds where roll imbalance becomes a vibration problem, then a quality problem, then a catastrophic failure. We dynamically balance every roll that needs it, and we run NDT (non-destructive testing) on cores and shafts to catch hidden defects before they become field failures.

What We Do

Test the metal. Balance the assembly. Catch the problems before they're field failures.

Capability 01

Die penetrant testing (DP)

Surface-breaking defects that aren't visible to the naked eye — cracks, porosity, weld defects. Penetrant draws into the defect, developer reveals it. Standard NDT method for steel and welded components.

Capability 02

Ultrasonic testing (UT)

Sub-surface defects detected with ultrasonic pulse. Critical for thick steel cores, welded joints, and any component where internal flaws could cause field failure under load.

Capability 03

Magnetic particle testing (Mag Particle)

Magnetic field + ferrous particles reveal surface and near-surface defects in ferrous (steel) components. Used on shafts, end bells, journal areas — anywhere a hidden crack would lead to expensive failure.

Capability 04

Full dynamic balancing

Every roll that runs at speed gets dynamically balanced. We use industry-standard balance grades per ISO 1940 (or customer-specified grade) appropriate to the roll's operating speed. Mechanical and electronic balance methods both available.

Capability 05

Balance documentation in the shipping package

Balance data ships with every roll. Initial unbalance reading, final balance result, balance grade achieved, RPM tested at. Part of the complete roll analysis package.

Capability 06

Why it matters for your line

An out-of-balance roll causes vibration. Vibration causes premature bearing failure, sheet defects, mandrel damage, and eventually catastrophic roll failure. Spend the small money on balancing now, or spend the big money on unplanned downtime later.

How Our NDT & Dynamic Balancing Process Works

From your first call to a documented, tested cover on your line. 89 years of doing it the right way.

01

Roll Comes In

Receive the roll, inspect the application requirements (speed, balance grade).

02

NDT Testing

If applicable: die penetrant, UT, or mag particle testing of the core/shaft.

03

Dynamic Balancing

Balance to spec (typically G6.3 or G2.5 per ISO 1940 for industrial rolls).

04

Documented + Shipped

Balance data and NDT results included in shipping package.
