Capabilities

What's the largest roll you can handle?
Up to 69 inches in diameter, 25 feet of face length, and 50,000 pounds . If your roll fits inside that envelope, we can cover, grind, and finish it — including the big rolls many shops turn away.
Do you cover with rubber, polyurethane, or both?
Both. We run all major rubber elastomer families and cast polyurethane in-house — TDI, ether-based, and ester-based systems. The right material depends on your application, and we'll recommend it rather than push whatever's on the shelf.
What is the difference between rubber and polyurethane roll covering?
Rubber offers excellent chemical resistance, vibration damping, and grip. Polyurethane offers superior wear resistance, tear strength, load-bearing capacity, and tighter durometer control (40A to 80D). Urethane typically wins on abrasive and high-load applications; rubber wins on chemical resistance, heat, and certain release properties. Arthur Rubber casts both in-house.
What durometer (hardness) range can you produce?
From about 20 Shore A soft nip covers up through hard Shore D — the full range, matched to your load, grip, and wear requirements.
What rubber compounds and elastomer materials do you use?
Full range of industrial elastomers: EPDM, Nitrile (Buna-N), HNBR, Hypalon (CSM), Neoprene, Natural Rubber, SBR, Polyurethane (polyester and polyether), Silicone, Viton (FKM), Butyl, and Chlorobutyl. Within each family there are 150+ proprietary formulations for specific chemistries, temperatures, hardnesses, and mechanical loads.
Can you cut grooves and crowns?
Yes — any groove pattern and any crown profile , ground and finished to your print. Turnaround & Service Area
Do you repair cores, journals, and shafts?
Yes. When your roll arrives, we inspect the core and repair worn journals and shafts before the new cover goes on — because a great cover on a bad core doesn't last.
Do you provide rubber lining for tanks and vessels?
Yes. Arthur Rubber lines tanks, vessels, pipe, chutes, scrubbers, and process equipment with chemical-resistant rubber compounds for acid, caustic, and abrasion service. Shop application available; field installation available with advance scheduling.

Turnaround & Service Area

How long does recovering take?
Most covers are completed on a 4-week standard lead time from receipt of your roll, depending on compound and finishing. We confirm a firm date when you send your specs.
Do you offer emergency or rush service?
Yes. When a line is down, we offer emergency rush turnaround in as little as 3–4 days . Call us directly and we'll get your roll back in service as fast as possible.
What's your service area?
We serve customers across 40+ states , from our 75,000 sq ft facility in Memphis, TN — with a concentration through the steel belt, aluminum corridor, and auto manufacturing regions. Quality & Testing
Where are you located?
Arthur Rubber Company's manufacturing facility is at 1165 Harbor Ave, Memphis, TN 38106. Operating in Memphis since 1937. Phone (901) 775-0513. Email sales@arthurrubberco.com.

Quality & Performance

What testing do you perform?
Full nondestructive testing — ultrasonic, magnetic particle, and dye penetrant — plus in-house dynamic balancing for high-speed rolls. Every order ships with a complete roll analysis package documenting the work.
What documentation is included with every roll?
Every roll ships with a complete Roll Analysis documentation package: pre-grind measurements, post-grind measurements, TIR (total indicator runout) readings, hardness verification, dynamic balance data, compound certification, and any NDT results. Auditable, traceable, QC-ready.
How long does a rubber roll covering typically last?
Service life depends on chemistry, line speed, temperature, load, and abrasion. A pickling line wringer roll might run 4-8 weeks; a paper machine press cover might run 6-12 months; a coating applicator roll can run 12+ months. Arthur Rubber custom compounds typically run 30-50% longer than industry-standard stock compounds.
Can you match or improve the compound we use now?
Usually, yes. With 150+ proprietary compounds and an in-house chemist, we can often match a compound you're locked into — or engineer a better one for your conditions, sometimes at lower cost. We've broken more than one sole-source vendor lock-in.

Working With Us

What makes Arthur Rubber different from other roll covering companies?
Most roll shops buy stock compounds from a custom compounder. Arthur Rubber has an in-house chemist with 40+ years of experience and 150+ custom-formulated proprietary compounds tested by independent third-party labs. Every compound was developed to solve a real customer problem. Family-owned, four generations, since 1937.
What industries do you serve?
Steel mills (carbon and stainless, including pickling and paint lines), aluminum mills (ironing, finishing, bridle rolls), coil coating lines (recoiler sleeves, applicator rolls), paper and pulp (press, suction, calender, dryer rolls), plastics and film (chill, laminator, embossing rolls), and chemical processing (tank linings, vessel linings, acid-resistant rolls). Ships across 40+ states.
Do you stand behind your work?
Yes. Every cover leaves our shop free of defects in materials and workmanship. See our guarantee for the full terms, or ask us when you request a quote.
What do you need from me to quote a job?
The application, your current compound, how it's failing, and your operating conditions (speeds, temperatures, chemicals). That's enough for our chemist to analyze it and recommend the right cover — free, within one business day.
How do I get started?
