The roll is measured, and the old cover and core are evaluated. We look at how the previous cover failed — the wear pattern is evidence — and check the core for damage, runout, and dimensions. This is also where compound selection starts: the failure mode tells us what the next cover needs to survive.
The worn cover is removed down to bare core without damaging the substrate. Careful stripping matters — a gouged or overheated core compromises the bond of the new cover.
With the core exposed, it's inspected in detail. Journals and shafts are checked and repaired if worn, and the surface is prepared for bonding. A roll is only as good as the core under it, so anything out of tolerance is corrected before the new cover goes on.
The engineered compound is applied — rubber built up and bonded to the core, or polyurethane cast in place. This is where the right chemistry, matched to your operating conditions, goes on. The bond between cover and core is engineered here; it's what prevents the delamination that ends a cover's life early.
The cover is cured under controlled conditions so the material reaches its designed properties. Proper cure is what gives the cover its final hardness, resilience, and resistance — rush it and the cover underperforms no matter how good the compound.
The cured cover is ground to the exact diameter, finish, and tolerance your application requires — and any groove pattern or crown profile is cut to print. This is the difference between a roll that runs true and one that vibrates or marks product.
Before it ships, the roll is verified: nondestructive testing (ultrasonic, magnetic particle, dye penetrant) to confirm bond integrity and catch flaws, and dynamic balancing for high-speed service. Every order leaves with a complete roll analysis package documenting what was done and tested.
